DexCare is using artificial intelligence (AI) to address critical challenges in health care—from overcrowded emergency rooms to fragmented digital systems. According to co-founder Derek Streat, DexCare applies AI and machine learning (ML) to improve patient access, reduce costs, and make better use of limited resources.
The platform enables health systems to treat 40% more patients without adding staff. It functions as both a digital "marketplace" for patients and a resource management tool for providers, guiding people to the right care at the right time.
Originally developed within the Providence Health System, DexCare is now scaling across the industry. It integrates with platforms like Salesforce and Oracle and adapts to various health systems, including Kaiser and SSM Health.
DexCare's AI optimizes schedules, allocates resources, and matches patients with the most appropriate care—whether that's an in-person visit, virtual consultation, or self-guided information. It also taps into electronic health records to predict provider availability.
While generative AI is still underused in health care, Streat sees huge potential. DexCare aims to simplify the care experience and make health systems more sustainable and patient-focused.
