Apple is preparing a major update to Siri that will transform the voice assistant into a full-fledged AI-powered chatbot.
This was reported by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. According to his information, the project is internally codenamed Campos.
Sources say the new chatbot will completely replace Siri’s current interface. Instead of short, simple replies, users will be able to engage in more interactive conversations, similar to how ChatGPT from OpenAI or Google’s Gemini works. Apple is already testing a standalone Campos app, but the company does not plan to release it to users as a separate product. Instead, the chatbot will be deeply integrated into Apple’s operating systems.
The new version of Siri is expected to launch alongside iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 in late 2026. At the same time, Apple is preparing an update for the current version of Siri in iOS 26.4. This update is expected to include features that were announced back in 2024 but never released.
The shift toward a chatbot format also helps explain Apple’s recent collaboration with Google. In early January, the companies announced that future versions of Siri would be powered by Gemini models. These models are already widely used across Google’s ecosystem, and Apple has decided to rely on external technology in an area where it currently lags behind competitors.
A standalone app for the AI-powered version of Siri is unlikely, but Apple is exploring other ways to leverage its developments in artificial intelligence.
